Project Overview
With Jarrell Mechanical’s involvement in the installation of a Distech Building Automation Energy Management System for the Union Station Hotel (in 2018), it was an ideal fit to task Jarrell Mechanical with the extension of the hotel’s BAS to the new HVAC systems in the renovation of the mall area and the addition of the St. Louis Aquarium.
Valuable Integration
Of course, this was no small feat. The existing property featured two separate control platforms. The Hilton Hotel at Union Station was controlled by Siemens Insight, while Union Station had a Honeywell Excel 5000. We removed both legacy systems and replaced them with one OPEN platform BMS, EC-Net 4 / Tridium Niagara 4.

For the connected equipment we selected Distech’s award-winning line of BACnet/IP ECLYPSE Controllers.

Accomplished Goals
- Provided an OPEN Platform system that allows easy upgrades and modifications for years to come.
- Empowered support staff with the ability to see and make changes - to the entire complex - on a single mobile device or a networked workstation. Staff now have the flexibility to move around while still being confident that control of their building is secure with authenticated connections no matter where they are in the world.
- Extended the "automated system" from the hotel to all of the attractions, restaurants, and the Aquarium.
