St. Roch ParishA Jarrell Case Study
Project Overview
St. Roch Parish is a Catholic Church located in the Skinker – DeBaliviere neighborhood in the City of St. Louis. This Parish was established over 100 years ago. The school consists of two buildings. One two-story building with a gymnasium, and one three-story building with a cafeteria.
“The difference that a comfortable climate makes in a school setting is remarkable. Student learning is up while discipline issues are down. The teachers’ productivity is higher as is the morale of both students as well as staff. I cannot thank Jarrell Contracting enough for their outstanding work this summer in installing our AC/HVAC system. From the beginning of the project until its timely completion, we received efficient and courteous service. The people at Jarrell Contracting are truly professional tradespeople who I would recommend to anyone.Mosignor Sal Polizzi, Dr. Mark Gilligan, & John Berglund, St. Roch Parish
The Challenge
Jarrell's role in the project was to provide air conditioning to the two buildings. Our scope of work consisted of all HVAC and HVAC related work. HVAC Controls and Control wiring. Electrical Distribution and Power wiring downstream of the incoming Ameren Service. Miscellaneous General Contracting work related and necessary to the HVAC equipment.
Our subcontractors on this project were:
- DiMaggio Electric, Inc.
- BSI Constructors
- Pro Insulation
- Kirberg Roofing
- St. Charles Acoustics, LLC
- Titan
System Design
We designed VRV system’s for the classrooms in both schools, and one twenty ton constant volume, single zone rooftop unit for the Gymnasium. The VRV systems consisted of 44 tons of cooling each, with twenty six fan coil units / twenty-three fan coil units respectively. We loaded into this project on May 30th 2017.
“I have worked on numerous school projects: the one thing that cannot change is the first day of school. Jarrell did an amazing job of working on a tight summer schedule, while maintaining quality and excellence. "John Berglund, St. Roch Parish
Our Process
Our first task was to mount / hang the fan coil units in each classroom. After that we installed the branch selectors. The refrigeration lines were then ran to the FCU’ and branch selectors. We sent the condensing units to our fabrication shop, where we designed a custom skid to carry each condenser package.
The skids were sent out, after fabrication, to be galvanized. Each condenser package consisted of three condensers for each school. Each condenser skid was pre-piped in our fab shop, so as to have one connection on the roof. We also custom designed and fabricated equipment rails to coordinate with the building structure in order to carry the weight of each condenser package skid.
With the help of our subcontractors, we were able to complete the project by the beginning of the new school year. We are glad to say that the faculty and students at St. Roch seem to be very pleased with the outcome.
